随着新冠肺炎疫情在美国的蔓延，夏威夷玛利诺学校收到了本校孔子课堂的中方合作院校——北京外国语大学送来的感人至深的问候。北京外国语大学校长杨丹于3月28日向夏威夷玛利诺学校致信，表达了对正处疫情中的美方朋友的问候与支持。杨丹在信中感谢此前在中国人民抗击新冠肺炎的艰难时刻，玛利诺学校校长佩里·马丁（Perry Martin）先生代表全校师生致信孔子学院总部和北京外国语大学，为武汉加油、为中国加油。杨丹表达了对玛利诺学校校长及全体教职员工的关心，表示愿在力所能及的范围内为玛利诺学校提供积极帮助和支持。
在孔子学院总部的领导下，北京外国语大学孔子学院工作处的老师们多方联络物资，筹集到一批N95防疫口罩，并马不停蹄地寻找可靠的国际运输渠道，从联络货源到玛利诺学校收到捐赠物资仅用了七天的时间，诚心和效率感人至深！
马丁在收到中方的慰问信和捐赠物资后即刻回信并亲自录制视频分别向孔子学院总部和北京外国语大学表达了深深的谢意。在给杨丹的感谢信及视频中，马丁非常感激北京外国语大学友善、慷慨地给玛利诺人捐赠防疫保护口罩，感谢中国朋友的亲切问候。他还重申玛利诺学校将一如既往的重视中文教学工作，注重让中小学学生更多地了解中国文化，更加珍视玛利诺学校与北京外国语大学彼此牵挂的情谊，这种友谊定会让彼此携手走向更加美好的未来。
为了让玛利诺教职员工第一时间拿到口罩、感受温暖，马丁在收到捐赠物资后不歇分秒，亲自将口罩逐一分发到每一位教职员工的信箱里，并向全校教师发送电子邮件，清楚地告诉老师们这些宝贵的N95口罩是他和玛利诺学校在中国的亲密朋友孔子学院总部和北京外国语大学捐赠的。原邮件摘录如下：
Today is Special! You’re going to have a great day today! N95 Masks from Beiwai University and Mandarin Immersion Supporters (Hanban) were placed in your boxes yesterday. They are all great friends of mine and Maryknoll.
当孔子课堂的老师们收到防疫口罩的时候大家都很感动，老师们纷纷表示一定会做好自我防护，同时更加乐观积极的投入到学校的网络教学工作之中。孔子课堂的一位美国本土汉语教师说：“虽然我离开祖国已二十年之久，但却能感觉到祖国温暖的春风沐浴着我”。玛利诺美方教职员工也都纷纷提出要亲自写信向孔子学院总部和北京外国语大学表达谢意。部分摘录如下：
